Proud to Serve Updated – Sergeant Justin Elzie

Yesterday I had the honor to spend  some time with Sergeant Justin Elzie-   Justin came out on ABC Evening News in 1993 becoming the first Marine to fight “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” He served 4 years openly gay and in Feb 1997 was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps.

Justin is in the process of writing a book about his life and experiences as an openly gay Marine and the gay subculture in the military. Book release for late 2010.

Photo was taken in Jersey City, NJ
