On my way back from the grocery store with the ingredients for my Crock Pot Beef Stew, I spotted a few Christmas Trees on the side of the road. It always makes me somewhat sad to see the trees tossed away. Especially when most cities offer tree recycling, after the trees have been recycled the mulch is available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Here in Austin you can take it to Zilker Park (click here for details) and in New York City they have Mulch Fest .

To make me feel better about seeing all the trees in the gutters and trash piles of New York, last year I took photos of all the abandoned xmas trees I saw while walking/biking around Manhattan and Brooklyn. Here is a slideshow I put together:
